That's probably to be expected, and maybe not the worst thing in the world
I know it's tough for the guys living in Utah. But it's not 1984 anymore, when Mormons were all concentrated in Utah and there was no viable alternative football program to cheer for. It's no secret that Notre Dame is the third-most popular college football team in Indiana. Their fans all live in Chicago, or New York, or Atlanta, or Florida, which is why they joined the ACC instead of the Big Ten.

As the Church matures, Mormons are becoming more widespread. A greater percentage of them live in the Midwest, South, and East than ever before, and this will continue. Utah will gain some of the Utah college football market share. BYU's fan base will become more and more widespread. That's just a fact. It presents major challenges to BYU, but it also presents major advantages. It makes it harder to keep the stadium full, but it also means you get attention where you wouldn't otherwise get it.
