I went to grad school at UofU and I remember an article in the student paper

that interviewed multiple students who were conflicted with the rivalry because they grew up as BYU fans, didn't get in, went to the U. The majority stayed BYU fans first, Utah fans second. I can see where it would be easy for them to switch allegiances depending on how each team was doing. Incidentally, I've been at Utah longer than I was ever at BYU, but still have a strong allegiance to BYU.
