Isn't individual righteousness a personal thing?
We know the scripture "much is given much is required" and as members of the church we have been given more. The rest of what I saw is pure speculation and my opinion but by knowing more and not living to what an athlete knows to be true is a failure of righteousness even though his collective actions can be "more" than his opponent. BYU has a team filled with RMs but let's just speculate that a lot of these aren't living all the standards, breaking the HC, cursing, law of chastity issues and so on. Now take the Boise St team and you have your typical athlete who lives and dies football, but on the side actually serves the community and goes out of their way to help others. Who is actually more righteous according to the light they were given? I can't really say but maybe professional athlete that chooses to work on Sundays, even though he's active every chance he gets and pays his tithing, isn't living up to his full righteous potential. Again this is all speculation and conjecture. This would make a good case study discussion.
