Church leaders have said that BYU athletics is a missionary tool. I know as a
yewt fan who may be LDS, that is a tough pill to swallow, but BYU athletics brings the church exposure for better or worse. If you want to see how true this is, look at all the anti-Mormon things yewt fans wrote about the church when the incoming Texas Freshman raped that girl their first day at BYU. On the flip-side, look at the numbers of people that watched Jimmer play ball and then talk about BYU and the church in his interviews.
I'm sure all of this is lost on you as a yewt fan. If BYU was not a missionary tool for the church, why have athletics at all?
