He re-applied for a scholarship offer? Uh no, he didn't apply for anything. He
was offered in May of his Junior year when he was originally recruited in HS. Not late at all, that's when BYU offers many of its prospects. He actually got offered before many kids do at BYU's camp just before their Sr year.
If BYU had botched his recruiting as badly as you are attempting to make it sound he would have went somewhere else after his mission. Kids that BYU does a great job recruiting have a hard time saying no to Stanford in football. Its a good school.
