What's dumb is justifying the partaking of one bad substance because it isn't
quite as bad as another substance. Drinking gasoline is not against the word of wisdom, but it isn't very wise. Drinking anything with caffeine would be no big deal if it could be done in moderation. Coffee and tea are not bad for you if consumed in moderation. In fact, they are probably considerably better for you than a coke or an energy drink. But that's the thing about caffeinated drinks, it is difficult to drink them in moderation because they are addictive.

The minute someone starts trying to justify whether or not they can partake of something because it is or isn't in the word of wisdom, that person has already missed the boat on the underlying principles of the word of wisdom. The minute someone starts justifying partaking of something (food or otherwise) because of what other people are doing, they are on the wrong path. The asking of the question itself demonstrates spiritual immaturity.
