Let's break down your post:

BYU/Church does not respond to media-frenzied pushing. That was the problem I disagree. The problem is they didn't act when the clarification was provided by the church - and then they lied about the reason they don't serve it.

People for years had been asking for caffeine, and sometimes it just takes the timing to be right, the leadership to be right, and frankly, other things of higher priority to not be taking up leaders' time. This takes almost no time to change. The next order you send to Coca Cola Bottling Company just has a different box checked. What I heard is frankly that caffeine on campus was just not a big issue---and it isn't. We agree here! There are so many other things that are more important. But there had been enough discussion about it that when the Church clarified it wasn't against the WoW, there were people at BYU happy to make the change. So was Carrie Jenkins one of those happy people?

But then that FB group went to the media trying to put pressure on BYU. My point, is that BYU isn't going to respond to media pressure that way. They shouldn't have to respond to anything if they were responsive themselves. BYU will study out the issue, discuss it in councils, make a decision, and then just do it without fanfare. I really don't see the need to study out the issue and discuss it in councils. Did they not receive clear guidance from the church when they clarified the position on caffeine (and since they've served caffeinated drinks in the Joseph Smith Building next to temple square for years)?

Personally, I like that way better. My point is you don't get your way with BYU or the Church (or God for that matter) by going to the media to apply pressure. This is the part of your post with which I most disagree. I think it is wrong for you to imply that my joining a facebook page regarding BYU's policy regarding caffeine is equivalent to those who try to apply pressure to the church regarding doctrinal positions. I am most certainly not going against a doctrinal issue that came from the brethren. In fact, if this were a doctrinal issue, BYU would be on the wrong side of the argument based on their clarified policy regarding caffeine.

The reason this issue got legs was because Carrie Jenkins either lied in a press conference (or giving her the benefit of the doubt she is completely incompetent) when she stated there is no demand for caffeinated drinks at BYU. That is when the "media pressure" began. People don't like being lied to. And, we should all expect more from BYU.
