I interviewed at BYU for a faculty position a few years ago, and met with
the Dean of the Business School and also a VP of the University. Both sent me the signal that the intention was for BYU to remain fixed in size, and become elite as possible. The cost of growing BYU due to lack of room is prohibitive. The plan is to grow BYU-I as large as possible where growth is cheap. It was said to me that BYU is meant to be like an elite private school, while the hope is that BYU-I would be comparable to a large flagship state university.
