I can't tell you exactly what role Worthen played. Some claim he was apart of the legal counsel, some say he was the primary negotiator, and others say he was the one coordinating all the discussions.
I do know this much. The Big12 officials and BYU officials met several times. Kevin Worthen was there. He had a role in the discussions and he spoke during those meetings (even though we don't know what his official role was). Several Big12 officials were turned off by Worthen and frustrated by things he was saying. This is true.
Now, fast forward a few years later, Worthen is now the president of BYU. I can only speculate (because I don't know) that these same big12 officials weren't ecstatic that the one guy they hated working with is now in an even bigger role with BYU.
This story aside, I love Worthen, I think he's great for BYU and I think he's a great president.
