This is the natural progression of a recruit who doesn't attend BYU
and goes to a big-time program. First, he is absolutely going on a mission, no matter where he plays. Once he starts getting big-time offers, the mission becomes a "tough" decision. That will gradually progress to "probably not". Once he signs with the big-time school, the mission idea is no longer a consideration.
Occasionally it will happen even if the player goes to BYU.
