It's too bad Brandon Doman never got same benefit
as coach Howell in being able to salvage some dignity and keep his job at least as a position coach. I would argue that Coach Doman didn't do any worse than coach Howell performance wise but the offense gets way more attention at BYU.
Which brings me to my biggest criticism of Bronco and that's the fact that he puts inexperienced and unproven coaches in a position to fail with the success of the program at stake. To me this mindset is about as realistic as taking your life savings to Las Vegas and expecting to double it. There seems to be a disconnect with reality in regards to the amount of expectations versus the amount of risks with these types of decisions.
In defense of Bronco he may not just have the connections or the ability to hire qualified candidates at any given point in time from the outside. If this is the case it seems like he is the only coach that has had that problem at BYU. Maybe he is a bit of a control freak, so much so that he needs to hire people within the program that have been groomed and indoctrinated with the goals of BYU football. Whatever the case I think this year we shouldn't have any major coaching issues as long as Bronco takes complete control of the defense.
