When a staff goes through turmoil like that it surely has to try friendships. And it makes me appreciate why Bronco tried to fully mend things with Doman after the season was over, even though it would've just been easier to part ways.
After all the various frictions have run their course in a season like that, an honest, reasonable man has to ultimately cut the other guy some slack, accept his own mistakes, & acknowledge that he too could've handled things better. I'm satisfied that's what Bronco honestly tried to do. But the Anae-Doman rift was another animal entirely.
To be honest, I wince every time I hear Doman commentate on BYU ball. I always think he's politicking to a degree. I really don't get the sense that he yearns for the success of the current staff like he claims. It all strikes me as very forced & choreographed. To a large extent, he's probably just being an opportunist--looking for any income or networking opportunity that comes his way. And I can't blame him in that.
But as a fan of Doman, I wish he'd just hang it up. At least for a few years. Any of us fans who are somewhat up with things know he really isn't that connected with the ins-&-outs of the team & program like his interviews seem to suggest.
Not that I'm in any way suggesting Doman should be that close with things BYU--he's got a family & life to worry about. And for the sake of his own legacy I wish he would just ignore the chump change & ol' connections eager to spotlight him--& just focus on those other things for a while.
