as a kid we did the holiday fundraisers with candy and wrapping paper. we would
go door to door to our neighbors and usually there was one or two that would purchase something every year. (the fat lady next door really loved buying the candy stuff). But with three of us boys in school she would divide her order between us all. My parents weren't the sorts to bring it to work and peddle it to coworkers and we didn't have family around to buy it. So it only took a year or to for us kids to realize it was way more work that it was worth when all we would get is some dumb silly putty or a noisemaker. There was always one or two kids whose parent was a CEO or something and they would bring it work and sell it to everyone at their company and get the huge prize.
