My daughter's middle school has a jog-a-thon and where the money goes
is a mystery but I think it just goes to the PTA.
She's in orchestra, and the band and orchestra have a dessert auction once a year and that's to help purchase instruments so that poor students can participate too and so that those who play the big instruments (cello and bass) don't have to bring them to school. It's a lot easier to donate when you know exactly what the money is for.
