A friend of mine has been a teacher in Utah for about 17 years and yes they work
hard and have to deal with a bunch of crap...but really doesn't every profession work pretty dang hard and have to deal with a lot of garbage?
He actually gets paid pretty ok, maybe a little bit less than I do, but he has had some amazing benefits that blow my benefits out of the water...

Benefit #1: He gets around 3 months off in the summer and takes some awesome vacations with his family and also usually takes university classes during the summers (either free or reduced cost, I'm not sure) to work toward an advanced degree

Benefit #2: He participates in a program that allows teachers to buy reduced priced houses. He bought one or two houses at 50% off the appraised value. I'm not sure but I think he got really great mortgage terms that, compared to my mortgage, makes it seem like he practically had free rent.

Benefit #3: He qualified for some kind of student loan forgiveness program (just as a comparison...my wife and I are still paying off student loans)
