I got one of those "elite" MBA's...it mattered more than I want to admit...
I am an education "anti-snob" -- meaning I disdain those that feel that their education was somehow much more superior and therefore they should be treated differently. I went to a large (5k students) Comprehensive (meaning we had hair styling, construction & autoshop) HS in lowly FL. [When I moved to FL at 5 yrs old, my parents were warned by our friends in NY about how dumb their kids education would be once they moved to FL.] I could have gone to most of the Ivy Leagues after HS but wanted to go to BYU--and did; and loved every minute of it.

5 yrs into an aerospace career, I had the opportunity to go to an "elite" Business School (and Engineering--dual masters). Honestly, the MBA was better than BYU's or others that I had close connections with in the Northeast--but at 8x the price of BYU, there was no way it was 8x better. From an education perspective, that was true, it wasn't 8x as good; but from a respect position, it opened so many doors for me and my companies I can't even count them. Virtually every customer and supplier was introduced to me as "...and this guy has a Masters in Mtls Science and an MBA from..." x! [Therefore, we must be a good, smart, intelligent, good-looking (?) company...]. I have never lacked for job opportunities; I always get more respect than I deserve.

I went on scholarship so I would never have considered paying 8x the BYU amount but I have to admit that the name alone has opened countless doors...

I'm still an "anti-snob" because I don't think the reputation difference is really fair...but life isn't fair...
