I understand that BYU could be invited to the playoff, but it's path arguably is the most difficult of any team in the country. Obviously the P5 have guaranteed paths to the playoff. G5 have limited access, but at least have joint interests in getting an undefeated team included somewhere and have a conference (if not some unofficial consortium of conferences) in years where a G5 team may have an argument. ND has exclusive access as well and gets preferable treatment. Then there's BYU.
