I think the coaching staff definitely knows a ton more than the rest of us. I actually think the same way you do and would like to see Tanner be given a series or two, but I can also see that there are potentially really bad unintended consequences of such a decision.
For instance, what if Tanner is marginally better but BYU still loses? Could not such an outcome cause team divisions? Would those who are shouting for Tanner blame him for the lose the way they have Taysom? And what if Tanner were just as ineffective? Do you go back to Taysom? If Taysom's confidence then completely shot?
And it is possible that Tanner would be much better, but I believe the coaches have calculated the potential problems are greater than taking the chance at giving Tanner a few series.
I believe that if Tanner is given a chance, he will be given the starting job, and it won't be for a few series.
