Single payer works for other countries because the U.S. subsidizes the world's

healthcare systems by doing most of the healthcare research. The U.S. private system pays for all of the cutting edge research, then other countries benefit from that. Also, the FDA has the most rigorous approval process, which the rest of the world benefits from.
