themselves, in my experience. In fact, in my part of the world, where there aren't many Mormons around, the stereotypes are probably held/believed more strongly in the LDS community than outside it -- if only because non-LDS tend to know little about Mormons.
For instance, it's always interesting to see Mormons' heads blow up when they see an active Mormon, say, vote for a Democrat or, heaven forbid, register as and campaign for a Democrat. Or to see reactions when Mormons don't follow standing operating procedure at church, or get a divorce, or express beliefs that don't conform to the norm/stereotype. The non-members around here mostly wouldn't think twice about it, since they don't see it as abnormal, but most LDS would.
