I don't think the choice was between Aytes & Nielsen, it was between

Nielson & Mika/Dastrup/Kaufusi. If he had a crystal ball & could see that Dastrup would need time to develop & Kaufusi would play football then maybe things would have gone differently, but based on the information he had at the time & the scholarship crunch he was under, it was a sensible choice.
