Look at the stats, Neilson not a game changer
I get that Isaac Neilson had a great game against us with the motivation. But, on the year he averaged 9 and 9 against really, really weak competition in the WAC. He also is not near the shooter everyone makes him out to be. For the year, the Junior, average .8 attempts per game and only hit 32% from 3 point range. In the last 14 games of the season, he attempted 5 total 3s and made ZERO. He is not really a stretch 4. He is a RS Junior RM and just barely putting up the same type of numbers that Childs did as a true freshman.

With that said, of course I would take him over Shaw or Aytes. But, having Neilson this year would not have changed a thing for BYU. Our issue was severe lack of depth at Guard and Wing. Neilson would have been rightly buried behind Mika, Childs, and Davis with Dastrup next year. Dave Rose didn't know what to expect from Dastrup coming home and had to make room for him. So can you really blame him for telling a kid like Neilson that if he wants a real shot he should look elsewhere?

Really, it is much better for Isaac. Playing in the WAC for a good big man coach gives him the very best shot at being productive.
