I'm not really a fan of HW for grades 1-6.
For grades 7-8 maybe some small HW assignments, but let the HW begin in earnest in HS.
Let kids be kids. They'll have their entire lives to learn, but childhood is a magical time that only comes once in life (or when you get really, really old).
