Wow...that's Dick's best column in like......ever
"To get back in the NCAA Tournament, Rose needs his staff to become, well, simply better. Same with his roster in both depth and talent, where bench scoring was paltry.

Rose doesn’t need to reinvent his program. He needs better offensive efficiency and more defensive emphasis. He needs better recruiting from a wider base. His teams have never been a steel curtain defensively, but strides are needed to stop opponents."

Summed it up pretty good. Not used to him being so on point. I hope Rose isn't done shaking up his staff. Nashif had more salient experience as an assistant coach than Lacomb ever will, I'm hoping he's just stalling to let Lacomb save some face or maybe so he can try and find a Director of Operations job at some DII school or a JC maybe before announcing his departure.

BYU basketball needs to be about the business of winning basketball and not being a long-term employment service for the assistant coaching staff. Rose needs to regularly review his staff and hold them accountable for results on the court. As demanding as he should be on them he needs to set the expectation that they're as demanding on the players (liked the history on Shroyer). I don't think it's a good thing to be a nice guy and then surround yourself with nice guys. You need some Sons of's on staff who will oppose things from time to time and voice some differing opinion. I remember during the glory years of BYU football, Lavell and his assistants used to have some pretty heated arguments about things. Disagreeing is okay as long as you can work it through to a healthy outcome. Much better than the bunch of "yes men" that Bronco had assembled with his coaching staff.

Rose may have lost a golden opportunity to win big with a top 25 recruiting class, an NBA caliber talent on the roster and 5 ESPN top 100 players on the team (Rose, Mika, Emery, Haws, and Dastrup). Maybe the mission rust will keep Dastrup from ever reaching that potential but it doesn't look good for Mika to return for his junior year and at BYU, NBA caliber talent doesn't grow on trees. The opportunity was wasted and we might not see another player with that potential for a while at BYU.

You gotta make hay while the sun shines. Good article Dick!
