My take on Pope
I think he was truly passionate about winning at BYU and developing players. However Kentucky was his soul mate and he jumped at the opportunity to return. He was never an all in BYU guy but never pretended to be.
Additionally I think he would have jumped at an SEC or Big Ten opportunity because he was likely frustrated with making things work in an NIL environment at BYU……also having an opportunity for generational wealth would have easily trumped the family friendly environment in Provo.

I don’t think BYU has ever been ranked #1 in Men’s Basketball. I’m still frustrated with the UAB game in 1987.
