Cheering for BYU is fun precisely because the deck is stacked against the Men's
teams, yet they still over-perform from time to time.

For all of those who think that I was trying to be salty with my comment above, I was trying to state that BYU will NEVER be like Texas on the gridiron or Duke on the hardwood. BYU's leadership will not allow the corners to be cut and the skids to be greased the way that those programs have to operate to achieve that level of 'success'.

BYU's men's athletics programs are destined for mediocrity within the top tier of college athletics, and that's OK! We can cheer on a team like last season's hoops squad that pulled out a historic win AT KANSAS! No one would have predicted that at this time last year.

So, my suggestion is to simply enjoy BYU sports for what they are. A great group of people, working together to do their best and once in a generation they will overperform to do something special. Any achievements beyond that, savor them!

This is not meant as a dis to the teams or coaches, it's just the reality of competing for athletes who can make a decision to follow the honor code and come to BYU or not have an honor code and make a bunch more money somewhere else. Realizing what the identity is of the sports programs you are cheering for makes the fan experience much more enjoyable when you have realistic expectations.
