Before the HI game, BYU was 12th in the BCS, 9th in AP and tied for 8th in Coaches. After the HI loss, BYU was dropped from the BCS standings. BYU was released from consideration before HI just like they do now, because it was too low in the BCS standings. They still do this sort of thing, even before the final game of the year.
