not now but...
...eventually. For some reason people seem to be under the mis-conception that the BCS as it is presently constituted will never change.

Truth is the BCS changes fundamentally all the time and often it's been BYU that's been the driving or a contributing force behind that change. Before the BCS it was the Bowl Coalition and Bowl Alliance. It's pretty well known that the whole reason we have this in the first place is because BYU is the original BCS Buster (sorry Yewt fans you can't fight history on this one) back in 1984.

This led to the creation of the Bowl Alliance and after BYU went 13-1 and was ranked 5th in the country in 1996 and got shafted by the Alliance and overlooked for the Fiesta Bowl changes brought about the Bowl Coalition (forgive me if they're in the wrong order).

Eventually this gave way to the BCS and the BCS has been constantly changing a little at a time to try and keep what they have while appeasing the critics who say it's unfair. In 2001 an undefeated BYU team was ripping up the college football world and leading the country in scoring and total offense. AGain they stirred up trouble for the BCS by pointing to the world how unfair it was. The BCS dodged a bullet when Staley got injured and BYU tanked it's game with Hawaii, but they eventually made changes to allow a non-AQ team a chance to qualify if it met certain criteria in 2003. Utah benefitted from that fundamental change the very next year.

They say history has a way of repeating itself and the BCS as we know it today isn't the finished product. It will continually come under attack for inherent unfairness and give a little more ground each time. You can bet with BYU partnering with ESPN going forward, they will be behind more changes in the very near future, possibly even this year.
