There is no way he could be thinking that way. Unless, it has been decided that BYU sports are no longer important and there will be no effort made to compete "at a higher level" in college sports. Because BYU will become increasingly irrelevant if we can't get into a BCS conference.
If the Big 12, or any other BCS conference, has an interest in BYU and we turn it down, no matter for what reasons, then BYU is finished so far as fan support. Fans will depart in droves. Might as well turn LES into a Kool-Aid stand.
We better be doing everything we can do to get into the Big12. If there are obstacles such as no Sunday play and the other schools won't schedule around it, then that will keep us out. But that sounds unreasonable and something they should be more than willing to work out.
The statement "Financial requirements" makes this highly suspect. BCS schools make far more money than BYU will ever make without being in the BCS.
If he said these things, even if not quite accurately quoted, then I don't understand our direction. BYU needs to get inform fans exactly what their position is and what they are going to do about it. OK, maybe he just did and we don't want to hear it?
