they more or less confirmed what Austincougar said, but with a more positive interpretation. Basically it was they didn't need the BCS money (i.e. we are doing fine financially).
they went independent for reasons other than money
most importantly there has been no invite extended.

my guess is
1. He isn't up to date on the commitment agreement
2. The status quo isn't bad from their perspective
3. They aren't banking on an invite and don't want to hype up the BIG 12 if one doesn't come


I don't see how this reflects a lack of commitment to football. Liking independence may or may not be smart, but it doesn't mean they aren't committed.
