That could be the case for some who get cut, but I don’t think it applies here.
This was a kid who comes from a pretty straight arrow family. You ever seen those videos of Tyler haws working out with his dad at the church early mornings? That was this kid. Basketball is life basketball junky who lived and breathed basketball and had time for nothing else but church and family and basketball. On vacation would find a church to practice with his dad. No discipline issues. Coach just picked other players for his team, maybe wanted to try something different or someone younger, maybe looking for a spark that last years team didn’t have, maybe feels pressure to let another kid on varsity or knows another kid personally or owes something to another family, I don’t know what he’s thinking honestly. At the end of the day my nephew didn’t make himself irreplaceable enough. But I don’t think it was personality or work ethic or discipline. And I don’t think it was lack of varsity talent... he was a starter as a junior. It was just an eviscerating cut of a senior by a coach who wanted to go in a different direction with this years team. His prerogative and his choice...but in that situation just talk to the kid... have a conversation. I feel like the situation calls for a conversation. Don’t blindside the kid.
