I happened to run into our local boys varsity coach right after the final tryout a couple weeks back or so.
He said that cuts are the worst part but what helps him is he set expectations early on in coaching that he has very little involvement with parents and has a near “don’t talk to me/it’s my program” philosophy.
I don’t necessarily entirely agree with his approach but I can understand. To many of these guys they just want to coach their players, if they have a line of communication and platform for parents it’s that much more of a headache and issue for them.
I am sorry to hear this about your nephew. Hopefully this can get him buckled down and more focused on what he’ll do school/education wise post high school. This can help him prep for the next 40-45 years of working.
