What is a coaches duty when cutting a player that was on team previous year?
My nephew was blindsided by not making his high school varsity basketball team this year. He was on the team last year as a junior and a contributor and started games. He traveled with the team out of state for games. His family hosted the varsity basketball team party at their house last year. He was very much ingrained into the team and had every expectation of being on the team this year as a senior and being a major contributor. Probably best guard available on the team. He found out by glancing at the sheet on the door and wondering where his name was...he thought it was a mistake because there were lesser players that were on there but not him. The coach went in a different direction and made what i would consider to be a bad choice with his roster. But for a kid that had been a contributor the year before...don't you think that coach owes him a conversation? I feel like if a kid had made the team the year before and was a senior that may be something you pull the kid aside for. Am i wrong? Should a previous starter find out the same way that everyone else finds out whether they made the team?
