Planning for the future is different in High School as well since the younger

athletes can compete in JV or Sophmore. Planning for the future usually constitutes getting the younger athlete more experience which in this case they can still get at the lower levels. Unless the student is the better/more gifted athlete I dont see the argument for planning for the future.
