It honestly surprises me. One thing that needs to be better understood by everyone in rich high school recruiting grounds is the momentum of how a program is perceived over time at that location. I'm not saying Kalani's guys don't know this but it is something every tiny capillary of the program and fans should understand better. You can undermine generations of recruiting just by how you treat a player. No, you will not make everyone happy and you can't offer everyone but there are really strong ways to show respect and help a kid feel important which carries into his family, other players on his team and his football community. The next time an offer goes out to a family member or player from the community you better believe everyone remembers. Football teams and their communities are cultural families and they live their joys and disappointments together.
I think BYU has been getting better at this under Kalani but we still have room to grow. Showing that generosity and respect will be critical over time to landing recruits in talented areas.
