So BYU scored bottom of the barrel in the "official brand score" based on a survey of 1,000 recruits from Dec 21-Feb 22.
If you delve into the details of this survey, there are several factors that likely result in the low scoring for BYU, but if you ignore a recent survey of recruits like this, I think you are just burying your head in the sand on the challenges that BYU is going to face moving into a P5 status.
In the most recent give'em heck Brigham podcast, they interviewed Liona Lefau, a 4* LDS LB from Kahuku, one of the primest of prime recruiting grounds for BYU football, what was his impression of BYU?
paraphrasing, BYU has basically told him, hey, if you have any questions, let us know... and you can hear the dissapointment in his voice discussing the overall recruiting effort that BYU puts out versus his other suitors, which include Oregon, Texas, USC, Michigan, Nebraska, most of the P12 and several others that make up his 25 total offers.
This is the highest rated LDS LB recruit on the board for BYU (I count Esera as a DL)
This should be our highest priority LB recruit and his response to the job BYU is doing is pretty underwhelming, and it sounds like Jack Damuni & Jasen Ah You are the only solid relationships he has.
I get that BYU has been running things in a very fiscally conservative manner, and I am on board with that, and BYU has announced new jobs in recruiting, but it is pretty clear that BYU is in pretty ugly territory in the eyes and minds of recruits because of that. BYU has a lot of work to do, to get even 1 standard deviation away from the mean, right now, we are basically dead last among all P5 schools in how recruits view us. Thankfully BYU has a much different experience to offer, but that isn't going to help out BYU in all cases, and I think this explains a lot of the reasons why BYU has been missing out on the vast majority of top flight LDS talent for most of the last decade.
