I grew up there, and I also understand schadenfreude. But I'm just asking about
the hypothetical of BYU joining a P5 conference and wondering where the eternal blue-gogglers get their confidence.
My perspective is that we would do OK in the Big 12 but that it would be a rougher adjustment than many fans would like or expect. I think we might win a recruiting battle here and there that we didn't win as an independent; but I still think that many (not all) of the kids that choose USC/Oregon/UCLA over BYU now might still choose those schools even if we were in a P5 conference.
We may never know. But I hope we have the chance to find out.
