Why does this matter? Some conferences are harder than others...just because

you didn't win your conference championship because you played against the best team in the country doesn't mean that you're worse than some other "champion" that earned their crown by playing an easy schedule.

Conference championships don't mean that you're the best team in your region. Being the best team in your region does not mean that you're one of the best 4 teams in college football.
