I'm not saying that conference championships shouldn't be a factor.
I'm saying that they shouldn't be THE factor. You need multiple weights. You need transparency. You also need more teams in the playoff.
To simply reward Washington because they won their conference championship (and played an easy schedule) undermines the whole idea of getting the "best" teams in the playoff. Conference championships are a data point...but they're far from the best data point.
