Flying across country from East Coast to California for Christmas at the in laws. We had two kids ages 2.5 and 3 months. Can't remember the airline. I think United or American.
We had a layover in New Jersey and then straight to LA. Our first flight was super delayed and so we thought we'd miss the connection. When we land in Jersey I kid you not the trek to get to our connecting flight seemed like 10 miles. I'm talking carrying two kids and carry ons, getting on buses and such and walking a lot. We get to the connecting flight and low and behold, we made it.
We made it because it was delayed, and delayed, and delayed. We finally get on the flight. We were now to land in LA at 2:00 AM when we were originally supposed to get there at 9:00 PM.
The flight from NJ to LA was awesome. The newborn had colic and was a nightmare (yes we were those people. I regret it now but we really wanted to go home for Christmas. I apologize to all on the flight).
It gets better. We were in the back row. A 90 year old man died in the bathroom on the flight. They laid his dead corpse in the aisle right by our seats. We had already passed Las Vegas so they said we would just keep going on to LA.
When we land in LA at 2:00 AM can we get off the flight? Nope. We have to stay for questioning to make sure there wasn't foul play.
We finally get to the in laws car. They told us they had 2 car seats so we didn't need to bring ours. But they only had one. It's 3:00 AM and my father in law is mad and tells us just to hold our 2.5 year old on our lap for the 2 hour drive. I say no way. We get in a spat. I won and he goes and buys a car seat and comes back to get us from the airport.
We make it home safely. The end of my worst flight experience ever. This is when we were young and poor. I will never let that happen again. Horrible experience.
