As for saying Mexican is not a race...
Sure, technically you're right, but why is it that most Mexicans don't reflect that kind of thinking?

I found it funny that when I traveled to Mexico City numerous times that whenever we would pass a business that was obviously owned by Jews that it was always commented that the owners were Jewish as if they were not part of the group. They were separate and in a way looked down upon because they were successful and lived in Polanco and Chapultapec. I had similar experiences in Monterey and Guadalajara.

Ethnic Spaniards whose families have been in Mexico for generations were given the same kind of treatment. They weren't referred to as Mexicans. Different terms were always used to separate them from the rest of the group, not one of which included "Mexican". Heck, I was more accepted in most places because both of my parents were "Mexican" in the Mestizo sense and my looks reflect that.

Whenever people down there referred to Mexicans it was always the darker Mestizos. Everyone else had a different term used, and 90% of the time it wasn't a good thing. So, you can say that Mexican is not a race, but it's not how they act there.
