That's a low hanging fruit for Google. The future is not in laying cable. Google has purchased several technologies

and AT&T is starting trials with a very promising technology called AirGig:

Google isn't about to spend hundreds of millions burying cable only to see a new, less costly technology in place just when they are finishing up.
