a very good university than to play on scholarship at a D2 school or junior college. I loved football growing up and had a few options to play in D2, D3, and junior colleges but ultimately decided to go to BYU. It has been the best decision of my life. Sports are great but for many they only last four more years and then are over for the rest of your life while you spend the next 40 years benefiting from your education. I won't pretend that there aren't advantages to laying sports at the college level but for me they were far less than a top notch education that is still blessing me and my family. This statement is going off the assumption that BYU is a better school than most D2 or D3 schools which may or may not be the case.
