I disagree. Usually a senior who has started three years would be the clear cut

Starter. Naming your starting QB early is ideal, so the team can know their leader and valuable reps can be given to the QB.

Obviously TM hasn’t separated himself from a true freshman. Coaches are likely apprehensive to start a true freshman and need to give him more time to develop as a leader in camp.
