I'm in a white minority school district...if you asked a minority kid to bring

in $3 for something like that, you'd be shown the door if you were a teacher.

This is not to say that a kid can do anything he wants without consequences.

I just don't like the shaming angle, and I also think that families who qualify for free breakfast and heavily subsidized lunches, might actually be concerned about $3. I know it sounds crazy, but I just think it's not as simple as you might think.
