No, they don’t always step up. If you need a thousand examples
of newly hired coaches that didn’t step up then I could do that. Sometimes you get something worse than what you had.
So, it makes sense that before you dump what you have (which is a good, serviceable coach), that you make certain you have something better available. This is especially pertinent at BYU because our pool of coaches who can take the position is more limited than at other schools.
