I agree that it will reflect poorly...
But less because he's a double minority - as in, I doubt that if he were white and mormon but in the same situation as Tyson needing to find a grad program that he qualifies for that he would find any easier time getting in.
I think it would reflect poorly in the fact that leadership couldn't figure out a way to make it work. There's plenty of grad programs that aren't so competitive.
If it happens to BYU, it will happen at other schools. Not every athlete will get in to whatever graduate program they want.
If people want to spin it on racism and discrimination, that's on them. It won't be long until other programs find themselves in the same situation.
