It isn't so much an issue with BYU as it is with the HC and staff of the football team. If I can find a coach who can win at BYU today, then the problem isn't the system IMO. Kalani has had some near special seasons, where we seemingly lost every game by 2 or 3 points. And I don't think there is anyone here that would claim that right now Kalani is a top 25 head coach in the country. Just from an X's and O's perspective, a better coach could probably have accounted for at least a score in most of those games. Fair? To me that shows that our problems could be solved with the right coach.
We could go through the trouble and embarrassment of rewriting the honor code to help out athletes (I think it should be updated for other reasons) and still stew in mediocrity, but to actually SOLVE the pain that we're all feeling we need an elite coach.
I'm hoping Kalani and Grimes prove this year that they are elite. I personally haven't written them off yet. However, another losing or average season makes me want to try something else.
