a player or waterboy on the team right now and won't be our coach for 10 years) can come in here and start winning than recruiting, national recognition, rankings, big bowls, everything a BYU fan could hope for would follow. We don't have a Hyundai here. We have a solid ride, capable of just about anything the DRIVER can do. We'll never be Alabama, Texas, or Clemson (or the Bugatti's/Bentley's/RR) because we won't dump the resources into the program like they will, but neither will 99% of college football. What we can be is Utah, Arizona State, Cal, Washington, Washington State, Wisconsin, Iowa, Iowa State, Miami, VT, Kansas State, etc. (or the BMW's/Audi's/Mercedes) If those guys stumble into a great coach the sky is the limit. What we are not is New Mexico, San Diego State, Tulsa, Toledo, Utah State, Northern Illinois, etc. (or the Hyundai's). What separates us from that group is that we have an independent schedule that affords us an opportunity to have some credibility if we run the table. If we win, there are conversations that need to be had and if things break right we're in. We have some pedigree, history, and our schedule is equal to or better than anyone else in discussions. If Tulsa goes undefeated they aren't in the conversation and even if things broke amazingly for them, a 3 loss Pac12 champ would be in before them.
My whole post was meant to say:
1. We aren't stuck with Kalani. I hope he's successful but if he's not we can boot him and find someone at least equal with the potential to be great.
2. Why in the world are fans saying that we have to go G5 because we haven't had the level of success in Indy that we wanted? We can win if our coach takes us there (see season where every loss was within a single score as evidence, a slightly better coach would have won those games).
3. We don't need sweeping changes in the honor code or with academic requirements or with facilities etc. Those things would make it easier, but we are in a position to win today if our coach leads us.
