... you're missing the point that those coaches don't stick around non-elite programs. For any mid-tier program to find a great coach that excels both at recruiting and scheming is already a gamble. But when the payoff of that gamble is a 2-4 great seasons before the coach moves on and the program takes a huge step backwards, I'm not certain that it's worth it.
For me, the jury is still out on Kalani, but I'm not pushing for his removal yet, because I believe being a good head coach is something that can be learned. Hopefully he's learning, but I'm not racing to make the BYU head coach job a revolving door. I believe BYU is even less likely to take that risk with their name and reputation is on the line. They were burned with Crowton and don't want that to happen again.
